A Family Legacy
Starting from humble beginnings in two small backyard sheds in St Leonards, Brian Merritt, and Peter Fair created Merritt & Fair in 1983. As children, Ross, Amanda, Scott (Scooter) and Christopher (Snowy) grew up around this business, day and night.
As the business grew it moved to premises in Lower Charles street (now the JMC car yard) and became their second home at weekends, and after school.
Once again the business was on the move, this time to Talbot Road. All four siblings became part of the furniture as employees of the company. Ross, Scooter, and Snowy doing their apprenticeships under Merritt and Fair, and Amanda helping out in the office part-time, and then more frequently after having children. Peter and Carol decided to retire from the business, and the 4 siblings decided to help their parents out while they decided on their future.
Family illness became the main subject of discussion in their homes, and it became clear that their parents needed to retire. The family's history was within this business, and therefore they couldn’t let it close. It was part of their childhood and their father’s dreams. They could see these dreams easily becoming their as we had ideas and ventures that they wanted to fulfill within their own lives.
In 2015, Ross, Amanda, Scooter, and Snowy purchased the business and began their own legacy and story, starting with seven staff members who are still with them today. Since then they have purchased a workshop in Youngtown, and grown to thirty-four staff. They love creating world-class designs in one space and giving their clients a unique experience while bringing their vision to life.
